RESEARCH PROGRAMME
CONTRIBUTE TO THE SCIENCE OF GLP-1 RECOMPOSITION
Recomp Health is building one of the largest opt-in body recomposition datasets in New Zealand. Your anonymised data improves the algorithms (RQI, LMPS), informs peer-comparison percentiles, and supports peer-reviewed research on GLP-1 micronutrient inadequacy, lean mass preservation, and clinical outcomes.
What your data contributes to
Algorithm calibration
The Lean Mass Preservation Score (LMPS) is calibrated against DEXA-validated lean mass changes. Your DEXA + protein + training data refines the formula.
Peer-comparison percentiles
Users see how their RQI / LMPS compares to similar cohorts (sex, age band, GLP-1 status). Better data = sharper percentiles.
GLP-1 micronutrient research
Cross-sectional and longitudinal patterns in nutrient adequacy on semaglutide / tirzepatide. Published papers cite anonymised aggregates.
Clinical reporting standards
Real-world DEXA-validated lean-mass loss rates feed our clinician-facing PDF outputs. More data = better clinician confidence.
How we protect your privacy
- ✓k-anonymity ≥ 5. No combination of attributes ever produces a sample size where a user could be re-identified. We assess every export and apply aggressive perturbation if the threshold isn't met.
- ✓No personally identifying information. Name, email, exact birthdate, and exact location are stripped at the source. We replace user IDs with single-use pseudo-IDs per export.
- ✓Granular data-type opt-outs. Inside the app, exclude sensitive categories individually — biomarkers, DEXA scans, GLP-1 logs — while still contributing the rest.
- ✓Withdraw any time. One tap inside the app and you're removed from future exports. We cannot retroactively recall previously-exported anonymous aggregates because they were never linked back to you.
- ✓Stored in Sydney. All research data lives in AWS Sydney (ap-southeast-2). NZ Privacy Act 2020 cross-border arrangement applies.
- ✓Never sold. Aggregated insights may inform published research and improve the app. Individual data is never sold to advertisers, insurers, or third parties.
- ✓7-year audit trail. Every export is logged with k-anonymity score, anonymisation level, and consent version — auditable by the NZ Privacy Commissioner on request.
How to opt in
- 1. Open the Recomp Health app on your phone (or web app at app.recomphealth.org).
- 2. Go to Dashboard → Research (mobile) or Settings → Research consent (web).
- 3. Toggle the consent switch. Optionally exclude specific data types.
- 4. You're in. Your next research export will include your anonymised data.
What you get back
Opted-in users see peer-comparison percentiles on their RQI and LMPS — “you're in the top 18% of GLP-1 users for lean mass preservation this quarter.” The data flows both ways: your anonymous numbers improve the percentile precision; the resulting percentiles improve your understanding of your own progress.
We also publish annual cohort insights — aggregate trends in lean mass loss, micronutrient adequacy, training adherence — without ever identifying individual users. First cohort report ships once we have n ≥ 100 opted-in users.
FAQ
Will my anonymised data ever be sold?
No. We may license aggregate insights (e.g. "average lean-mass loss on semaglutide 2.4 mg over 12 weeks") to peer-reviewed research, government health bodies (Medsafe NZ, MoH), or academic partners. Individual data is never sold.
What is k-anonymity?
k-anonymity means any combination of attributes in the dataset matches at least k different people. We use k ≥ 5 — every row could be at least 5 different users. If a query produces a smaller match, we either perturb the data or drop the row.
Can I withdraw after contributing?
Yes. Withdrawal is instant for future exports. Previously-exported aggregates cannot be recalled because they were never linked back to you in the first place.
Is my data ever shared with insurers?
Never. We are not affiliated with any insurer. Recomp Health Limited (NZ) is the sole data controller.
Where is the data stored?
AWS Sydney (ap-southeast-2). NZ Privacy Act 2020 cross-border transfer arrangements apply. Read more in our privacy policy.
Do you need ethics-committee approval?
For aggregated research outputs (cohort insights, published descriptive statistics) — no, because we never handle identifiable data. For any future intervention study or RCT involving identifiable participants — yes; we will apply through the NZ Health and Disability Ethics Committees (HDECs).
